The Queen of Country Pop is about to have herself a moment. Shania Twain drops her new album, Little Miss Twain, on July 24 via Republic Nashville — her seventh studio record and one of the most personal collections she’s ever put together.
To close out the countdown, Twain just released the album’s final preview, and it’s a curveball nobody saw coming: “Faded Blue Jeans,” a duet with Josh Homme, the frontman of rock heavyweights Queens of the Stone Age. It’s a nostalgic, guitar-driven anthem with a rebellious rock-and-blues streak, and it’s exactly the kind of left-turn collaboration that keeps Shania interesting almost thirty years into her career.
Twain wrote the song entirely on her own, pulling from one of her teenage romances and that stubborn, all-in belief that young love could last forever. Homme’s gravelly voice against Shania’s is an odd-couple pairing on paper, but on record it just works — two very different worlds meeting somewhere out on a back road.
