Lainey Wilson helped celebrate Tim McGraw’s latest career milestone with a performance that carried much more meaning than the audience may have realized.
Wilson took the stage at the Country Music Hall of Fame’s 2026 Medallion Ceremony in Nashville on October 18, performing McGraw’s classic “Just to See You Smile” as he was officially inducted into the Hall of Fame.
A Tim McGraw Classic
Wilson chose “Just to See You Smile,” one of the defining songs from McGraw’s 1997 album Everywhere. The single spent six weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s country chart and remained on the chart for 42 weeks.
Wilson recalled how seeing McGraw perform when she was younger helped plant the seed for her own country music career. Now, years later, she was the one standing onstage celebrating his legacy.
McGraw was inducted as part of the Country Music Hall of Fame Class of 2026 alongside Paul Overstreet and The Stanley Brothers. Lady A and Parker McCollum also performed songs from McGraw’s catalog during the ceremony.
For Wilson, however, the night was more than another performance. It was the kind of moment that shows just how far a dream can travel — even when the letter carrying it takes more than 15 years to arrive.
